Extreme Laboratory Conditions

Ultra-Low Temperatures

Illustration eines Kühlschranks mit Blick ins Universum – symbolisiert extrem tiefe Temperaturen in der Forschung.

In our experiments, it is as cold as -273.13 °C – colder than in outer space. The lowest ‘natural’ temperature ever measured among the stars was -270.43 °C. Special phenomena occur at ultra-low temperatures, for example, air becomes liquid (at -182 °C). By the way: the lowest natural temperature so far measured on Earth was -93 °C.

Super-Strong Magnetic Fields

Our magnets are strong enough to lift two Eiffel Towers at a time! That would be a total weight of 20,000 tons.

Enormour Pressure

Wal-Illustration zum Thema enormer Druck.

The pressure generated in our laboratories is as enormous as if 30 adult sperm whales were standing on a stamp!
